After several years of research to allow fire protection of documents and precious objects, BLOCKFIRE® appears to meet the imperative needs of preventive conservation of museum institutions.

In England, low oxygen storage at the National Library gives good results but at an exorbitant cost and with a scrupulous maintenance difficult to set up.
Conservation boxes for precious documents made of composite clays, resistant to fire, were also cleverly manufactured and offered on the market, but again, did not offer an obvious answer to the specific needs expressed.
Something else had to be found that was perfectly suited to the preservation of objects and documents in the event of fire, and the BLOCKFIRE® system offers everything that can be expected in terms of secure storage.
Operating principles of the Blockfire® system
BLOCKFIRE® is a mobile shelving system that allows to protect from fire large quantities of archival documents, books or precious objects in a reduced space.
The entire stored collection is insulated from the outside by a floor, a cover and walls that offer a fire resistance of 2 H for an average interior temperature of 70° to 80°.
The racks are designed with highly insulating sandwich materials that limit the propagation of heat from the outside to the inside of the system.
In case of fire, the intumescent joints, in contact with the heat, turn into a refractory mass which welds the parts together for a complete and durable insulation.
This system of mobile shelving can be designed according to the particular needs of conservation, the geography of the place, the type of objects or documents to be preserved or the budget available for the realization of the projects of reserves or stores.
The dimensions of the shelving can be up to 6 meters high and more than 8 meters long.
Everything is modular and thus each configuration is optimized to the maximum.
For example, up to 14 storage levels with a total height of 6 meters are possible. Shelf lengths range from 670 mm to 1270 mm and from 250 + 250 mm to 600 + 600 mm in depth.
Equipped with sliding panel grids, the height can safely reach 5 meters.
Drawer cabinets mounted in the shelving unit also allow the storage of large format plans or rolled documents up to 2,000 mm deep.
BLOCKFIRE® operates on a mechanical or electromechanical system, depending on the use and size of the shelving.
Alarms are activated in case of anomalies or open corridors.
This system has undergone numerous tests and is now certified by the Italian standards where these products are manufactured.
These innovative solutions, long awaited by the best French institutions, are internationally patented and now distributed exclusively by PROMUSEUM.
